Finally got to turn that box elder burl blank that I bought many weeks ago.
I wanted to make some kind of bulbous form to hold dried flowers because the burl, colour and the knots were too beautiful and too fragile to take a chance on turning a thin wall bowl. Sure enough I did have a few pieces of the knots fly off so I was super cautious about doing the least damage possible.
I sanded it to 400 grit, then used 00 steel wool, then I used the Beall polishing cotton wheels. I put butcher block conditioner on the inside and on the knots.
I still have some work to finish the inside but like a kid with a new toy, I had to share.
Happy turning!
