  • What is a Men's Shed?
A Men's Shed is a community-based, Not-for-profit organization that provides a safe and friendly environment where men can work on meaningful projects, or socialize in the company of other men. It's a place where some men learn, some teach, and some simply enjoy the companionship of others. It provides: "Somewhere to go. Something to do. Someone to talk to."
  • What are the benefits of a Men's Shed?
A Men's Shed provides a safe and friendly environment where men can work on meaningful projects, which gives a sense of purpose. Men work at their own pace, in their own time, in the company of other men. It's a place where members learn or teach new skills and find new opportunities and interests while making new friends. A Shed offers men an alternate way to reach out to avoid 'isolation' while giving back to society.
  • What is a Satellite Shed?
The North Grenville Men’s Shed does not yet have a permanent home. Instead, 5 members offered their workshop/garage and they each have an intended specialty to learn and work on various projects and crafts. These satellite sites are available on various days of the week depending on the host’s schedule.

  • Why do Men's Sheds exclude women?
One of the foundational aspects of Men's Sheds is to promote "the health and well-being" of men. Some health concerns, especially things that develop with age, are best shared with others of the same sex. In Australia and Ireland, women, who find the Men's Shed philosophy helpful, have established Women's Sheds (not yet in Canada). Here women too, can share concerns about the unique health concerns women face.
